eva michielin
the art of transformation

Since childhood, Eva was crazy about colours. She took up painting at a young age, started observing natural patterns and colour structures in nature, something her work is based on until today.
In her work she combines photography, painting and textile to monumental diptychs giving the impression of modern cave paintings. Naturally raw stone- and tree structures seem over-lifesized, with the transition of photography and painting often fluent.
However instead of a brush, trowel or spatula only her own body is being used for Eva’s paintings. She dips it in paint and leaves his female traces on the photographic background.
Opposing the organic forms however are distinctive letters on velvet ground. They form words, parts of sentences and entire phrases, sometimes whole texts – their message often as powerful as haunting. Inscribed into the gently glossy textile they almost resemble fading memories, while at the same time conveying a perfectly clear message.
Just as self-determined and independent as Eva’s works present themselves it’s spectators should do – as women claiming and fortifying their rightful and equal place in society. This empowerment is not only necessary, but obvious – for women as well as for men.
Eva’s distinctive feeling for justice and her respect for nature form the foundation of each of her works, making her works as biographical as universal.
